Mission to Build Community

"Small basic communities"
Where the faithful communicate the Word of God and express it in service and love to one another are centers of evangelization, in communion with their pastor."
- Pope John Paul II

The small Christian community has several defining elements that make it different from Bible and prayer groups; it is where people share their faith. The small Christian community is where people develop a strong support network that often becomes as tight as a family.
The small Christian community is not a therapy group. It is not simply a group that sits there good together. It is not simply a little support group that strokes the member's psyches. It is truly a spiritual energy group that can hugely impact the present day culture and have a significant role in the life o f a big or small parish.

The pastor and leader of the parish have a mission to be a resource for all that can happen in small Christian communities. We need to be inspired and qualified to help all who are searching for community support in a world of fragmentation and broken relationships.

The pastor and leaders of the parish find this call to build structures to be holistic enough to acknowledge that there is a connection between building community and growing in wellness. That is our vocation and mission in our present day culture.

We need to honor the lifelong learning and personal growth needs of all our parishioners. This is the call inherent in the sacrament of baptism and in the sacrament of confirmation.

The pastor and the leaders of the parish are the agents in place to answer this call to create structures that erase loneliness and help individuals grow in the faith.
